The Furnas Valley is one of the largest thermal hydro poles in the world. Its iron and sulfur-rich waters, gushing everywhere, are tasted, felt, experienced.
It’s the land of iron-rich streams, flowing through plantations, leaving a trail of gold; of the unreal reflection of a Gothic hermitage on the surface of the lake; of constant and liquid murmuring, of heavy and powerful vegetation, of impressive botanical gardens, of the penetrating smell of absolute nature.
From the bubbling mud to the surface of the earth, from the giant caramel-colored tanks where we sink into warm and medicinal waters; it will also be the place to taste one of the most exotic dishes in the world: a variety of vegetables and meats, cooked in the earth’s heat, beneath the earth itself

- We begin the morning with a visit to the Gorreana Tea Factory, including a tasting of regional tea. It’s the oldest tea plantation in Europe, cultivating tea since 1883.

- Next, we descend to the parish of Furnas to explore the caldeiras, visit the famous fumaroles, and sample the different carbonated mineral waters from various springs.

Furnas Stew
- Passing by the Furnas Lake, our next stop will be a local restaurant where you’ll have the opportunity to taste the famous “Cozido,” one of the most emblematic dishes of the Azores.
- The Cozido is a mixture of regional vegetables and meats cooked with the help of volcanic activity. It’s a true gastronomic experience you won’t want to miss.

Botanical Garden Terra Nostra & Termal Waters
- After lunch, we’ll visit the romantic, lush, and century-old Terra Nostra Park, a botanical garden famous for its extraordinary collection of plants from around the world, including one of the largest collections of Camellias.
- In the park, get ready for a dip in the iron-rich hot water pools, where temperatures range from 35°C to 40°C. This is an exquisite and invigorating experience!

- No regresso a Ponta Delgada, iremos passar pela costa sul e Vila Franca do Campo.
- Nesta vila, é possível observar o ilhéu e conhecer um pouco mais sobre a primeira capital da ilha e sobre o terramoto de 1522.

Why this Tour
On this comprehensive tour, you will feel and experience the volcanic origins of the island, in Furnas, a magical place full of geothermal activity.
There are fumaroles with pots buried underground, a mysterious lagoon, and a gothic church. There are hot springs and a botanical garden with hundreds of species of flora.
One of the highlights of this day is obviously tasting the famous Cozido das Furnas, the typical dish of São Miguel cooked in the calderas near the Furnas Lagoon, thanks to the volcanic activity that can be felt and seen there. It’s delicious but also heavy on the stomach, so be prepared!
