With a challenging yet incredibly beautiful trail, we suggest this journey to the volcanic complex of Sete Cidades: We offer you lakes, aqueducts, and waterfalls, under the sign of beauty, tranquility, and the desire to escape from everyday pressures. And on this lesser-known route, the scenery surprises with a succession of lakes that reflect vegetation and sky, multiplying them, like in a magnificent natural mirror game. And it’s still this trail that leads us to high peaks, from where seagulls and buzzards take flight, gliding through the atmosphere before our eyes, and sprinkling the sky and sea with movement.

The beginning of an adventure
- After checking in at the store and being picked up from Ponta Delgada, our adventure begins.
- Our guide will welcome you and lead you to one of our comfortable vehicles for a great experience.

Discovering the Nine Windows Wall
- Once we’re ready, we’ll head towards the Sete Cidades Volcano. This circular trail begins at the Nine Windows Wall, an aqueduct of historical value reconstructed in 1830 to supply Ponta Delgada.
- Above its arches, water was collected from the area of Lagoa do Canário. Walking through Serra Devassa, we’ll reach Lagoa do Caldeirão.
- We’ll also pass by Pico das Éguas and Lagoa das Éguas.

Lagoa do Caldeirão
- On the Serra Devassa trail, we’ll have the opportunity to see Caldeirão Lagoon, within the Sete Cidades volcanic complex.
- This lagoon is currently being used as a water reserve for agricultural use. Additionally, it is about 750 m above sea level.

Pico das Éguas
- We will arrive at Pico das Éguas, the highest point in the western area of São Miguel island (873 m). On a clear day, it is possible to enjoy a beautiful view around the lagoons.

Lagoa das Éguas
- We will pass by Lagoa das Éguas. Typical Macaronesian forests surround the lagoon. There are also cryptomeria plantations around.

Lagoa do Canário
- Finally, we will arrive at Lagoa do Canário, where you will have time to take a break and have a light snack.

Grota do Inferno Viewpoint
- Have you heard of Grota do Inferno Viewpoint? It’s one of the most famous spots on São Miguel Island.
- Simply because of the dramatic and spectacular landscape this viewpoint offers and incredible views of other lagoons. Perfect for nature photos.

Back to Serra Devassa
- We will continue through the Canário springs and return via Serra Devassa, where we will also appreciate Lagoa Rasa.
- Lagoa Rasa is a small lagoon with a particular formation within the volcanic crater, surrounded by a pleasant green area. We will also explore Lagoa das Empadadas before returning to the starting point.
- Learning about the geomorphology of the island is the perfect way to discover Sete Cidades on a comprehensive but lesser-known path.

Return home
- After enjoying some breathtaking views, such as the Vista do Rei viewpoint, we will take you back to Ponta Delgada.
